Green School is a place-based nature education program started in 2023 in Gobuk, Arunachal Pradesh. It was created to help children connect with nature and their local culture in a positive and meaningful way. In Gobuk village, there is only one Lower Primary School, and children have a lot of free time, which they mostly spend in outdoor activities. Observing this, we felt the need to guide them toward more enriching and constructive engagements. Green School provides children with a space to learn through art, storytelling, games, movie screenings, and walks in forests and farms. They also get to use binoculars and cameras, listen to stories from elders, and develop an understanding of the value of plants, animals, and their land. The program works closely with parents, teachers, and community groups to ensure that children feel supported in their learning journey. Our hope is that by learning and exploring in a fun and engaging way, children will grow to respect nature and may even become future local experts who protect the environment

Program summary for Nov 1st event –

• Nature Walk: Students will participate in a 1 km guided trail walk, observing birds silently and identifying them using brochures and binocs. Local bird experts will accompany the group and share their knowledge.
• Bird Bingo: Students will engage in a Bird Bingo activity, identifying bird species and learning about their names, colors, and habits.
• Warm-up Game: A short interactive game based on birds and insects
• Sharing Session: Student will reflect on their observations and share their learnings from the walk.
• Picnic: The session will be concluded with a picnic, allowing students and facilitators to relax and share their experiences together.
