About Young Birders’ Month

Why is Young Birders’ Month celebrated in November?
November includes Dr. Salim Ali’s birth anniversary (12 Nov) and Children’s Day (14 Nov). It also marks the arrival of migratory birds and pleasant weather in many parts of India.
Who can participate?
Children, youth, families, schools, birding/nature groups, and nature educators are all welcome! Some events are open to the general public, while others may be designed for specific age groups, communities, or schools.

Do participants receive certificates or prizes?
Some competitions will have prizes, and many events may offer participation certificates. Details will be mentioned in each event description.
How do I know which events are happening near me?
You can explore the Discover Events Page on our website and follow our social media handles to find bird walks, workshops, and celebrations happening in your city or region.
Do I need to register in advance for events?
Some events require advance registration (links will be provided), while others are open for walk-ins. Check the event listing for details.
Are online events available for those outside major cities?
Yes! Young Birders’ Month includes webinars, quizzes, and interactive online sessions so children across India can participate.
Can parents attend events with their children?
Yes, many events are family-friendly. Please check the event listing for specific details.

 

For Event Organizers

How can I/my organization host an event for YBM?
Simply fill out the form on the Host Events page on our website. Once you share your event details, we will review them and then feature it on the website.
Can individuals (not part of an organization) host events?
Yes! If you are an educator, volunteer, or nature enthusiast, you can host an event. We may ask for a reference to know more about your work.
How long does it take for my event to appear on the website after submission?
Our team will review your event details and publish your listing to the Discover Events page within 2 working days.
When can I submit my event for listing on the website?
Event submissions open on October 1st, 2026 at youngbirders.in. We recommend submitting your event details well before your event so participants have enough time to plan and register.
Are there any costs involved?
There is no fee to host events in Young Birders’ Month. Each organization manages its own event expenses.
Can I charge a participation fee for my event?
Yes, you can charge a fee to cover venue or material costs and compensate for your time. Please specify the fee details clearly in your event details.
What kinds of events can be organized?
Events can range from bird walks, nature journaling workshops, storytelling sessions and art competitions to film screenings, quizzes, talks, and citizen science activities. All bird-themed events are welcome. Resources and ideas are available on the website.
How will my event be promoted?
All registered events will be listed on the Young Birders’ Month website. You can also promote your event on Instagram and collaborate with @YoungBirdersMonth to reach more people.
Are there training sessions available for nature educators who want to host events for YBM?
Yes! We will be conducting training sessions throughout October to help nature educators, teachers, and volunteers learn how to plan and lead engaging, bird-themed activities for children. Details and registration links for these October training sessions will be announced on this website and @YoungBirdersMonth on Instagram.
Can schools participate?
Yes, schools can host bird-themed activities for their students. They can also join national competitions, conduct campus bird counts or invite local experts for bird-themed sessions, or nature walks.
Will event organizers get support from the Young Birders’ Month team?
Organizers will receive visibility through the website and promotional support on our social media handles. Resource kits are also shared on the website. Please write to us at [email protected] for any other support you may need.
What should I do after my event is over?
Once your event concludes, please log back into the YBM website to fill out the Post-Event Summary. Share your participant count, event highlights, and up to 5 photos (with parental consent) so your event can be included in the national participation numbers and the YBM 2026 report.
